The History of OPC

In 1534 French explorer Jacques Cartier was exploring North America with about 100 soldiers. They were somewhere around the Hudson Bay area when they got "snowed in," and had to set up camp to wait for the spring thaw. Having nothing but the hardtack in their backpacks to eat, the men soon began showing signs of malnutrition, such as swollen gums, severe fatigue and open sores. Cartier, seeing the deterioration of the men, began to feel desperate. And he had a Native American, who had been found wandering through the area, brought to the camp and asked if he knew of anything that could help. The Native had Cartier follow him deep into the forest.

After much searching, the Native settled upon what looked like a pine tree. He took the needles from the limbs, and the bark from the trunk. He placed all of this in a pile,
and told Cartier to take them, boil them in water and drink it like a tea. Upon returning to the camp, Cartier shared with the men what the Indian told him. The French soldiers were generally non-responsive, and pretty much said, "I don't think so."

Cartier was finally able to get a few volunteers to drink the tea. Their Native benefactor stayed to help, and treated the men's wounds with a suave made of the crushed pine bark and water. Within a week it was obvious to everyone that the volunteers were beginning to look much better. The rest of the men began to likewise drink the tea. Those who were not "too far gone" made a miraculous recovery. When the soldiers returned to Europe they wrote their story about the miraculous power of the pine bark. And for hundreds of years Europeans would look at each other and say, "Hmmm? Wonder what was in the pine bark?"

Then, in the 1940's, a professor of science from the University of Bordeaux, Jacques Masquelier,  read the story. Dr. Masquelier decided to study the pine bark. He found a compound he believed was responsible for the benefits described. He called the compound, oligomeric proanthocyanidins, or "OPC." Since then many scientists have concluded that OPC's are the world's strongest antioxidants. Aside from pine bark, OPC's have been found in at least 14 other plants. The largest source of OPC's was found in grape seeds. They have also been found in the skins of the peanut, beer yeast, red wine extract and the goose berry. Pine bark extract is the most clinically studied, with more than 200 clinical studies to date. The Swiss Research Lab, Horphag, has a research website displaying the voluminous studies on pine bark extract: www.pycnogenol.com.

Horphag Laboratories harvest pine bark from the French Maritime Pine Trees along the Atlantic shoreline of Europe. They are the world's largest producer of pine bark extract, and Market America is their largest customer. Market America utilizes pine bark extract in a number of products, but their number one product, OPC-3, utilizes 3 sources of OPC's: pine bark extract, grape seed extract and red wine extract. Of the more than 2500 products sold by Market America, OPC-3 makes up almost 20% of  their sales. Steven Lamm, M.D. of NYU school of medicine once stated that he has read thousands of articles on antioxidants; that OPC-3 is the world's greatest antioxidant cocktail available today; that he doesn't know why every person on Earth doesn’t take a shot of OPC-3 every day.

Eyes Wide Shut

In Jim Collins’ book, Great by Choice, he writes about a few simple traits that the leaders of great thriving businesses in tumultuous times share.  The one that stands out for me is “hypervigilance”.  These leaders live with the expectation that change happens.  They prepare for the worst. Bill Gates strove to have cash reserves that would cover the operations of his company for one year without income.

The vast majority of people I am meeting do not possess this trait.   They are slowly beginning to doubt the positive economic spin by the media (after 5 years), but continue to do nothing and cling to the “hope for the best”.   Three facts that have been in front of our noses for the past year are not wasted on the “hypervigilant”:

1.   77% of all jobs being created since January 1, 2013 are part time.

2.   The number of jobs in America currently are no where near where they were in 2007.   The reports range anywhere from 1 million to 11 million fewer jobs today than in 2007.  It is a very wide range.   Even at the very least,  we have lost a huge number of jobs.

3.  Next is the fact of who our employers are.  Who are the four biggest employers in the private sector?  We would love to hear it is Microsoft Standard Oil, GM or US Steel.   However, the top four actually are: Walmart, Kelly Temp Services,  McDonald’s, and Taco Bell. Tell me what you think your potential for a successful career is with any of these four?

For starters, what do you think about your chances for a full time job?

So, what does this mean?  It means people should be taking action, not sitting still with a “wait and see” attitude. Multiple Streams of Income is a strategy gaining greater consideration. Since all jobs are TEMPORARY, whether you know it or not, isn’t it logical to look for ways to spread the risk?   Every opportunity you hear of, should be explored.   Of course, there are good and bad opportunities.  So what?   If you want to be successful, you will undertake the burden of evaluating the options out there.   I have been evaluating home based businesses for years.  I’ve found one that is exceptional and would be happy to explain it when you’re ready to take a look.

Affordable Care Act could make America Healthier

I recently heard a doctor predicting the future of health care under “Obamacare.”  He predicted an evolving downgrade in the quality of health care providers to go with a reduction in coverage for expensive medical  procedures.  His conclusion was that the best thing people can do is “not get sick”.

At first this sounds silly.   But the fact is that 70-80 % of our health issues in America are a result of lifestyle.  The people of Japan are the healthiest in the world.  They follow Eastern philosophy and treat food as medicine.  They utilize various supplements and herbs in addition to a healthier diet in their  daily lifestyle. Western medicine is utilized briefly when a condition arises which their supplements and herbs cannot cure.  Things such as a broken bone or appendicitis.  But their stay in the hospital is very short with a quick return home to utilize herbs and supplements to heal and resume their healthy lifestyle.

If more Americans take responsibility to change their habits and create a healthier lifestyle, the country as a whole will become healthier.  The reliance on the health care system will decrease proportionately.  This, of course, requires more people to think and take personal responsibility.   Philosopher, Bertrand Russel, once  said most people would rather die than think, and many do.  If Obamacare does create a poorer quality of health care, we can only hope it brings with it the incentive for America to increase its interest in a healthier lifestyle.  Wouldn’t that be ironic?  The decision to create a program that encourages more reliance on government for health care could result in greater self reliance.

Personal Testimonial about calcium and magnesium.

In one of my business groups two doctors were discussing the effects of stress on plants and people.  One was a chiropractor and the other a plant pathologist.  They were not aware, until that moment, that both plants and animals use a lot of calcium and magnesium when under stress.

      You’re thinking, so what?

Well........  Last weekend I “over did it” in physical exertion.  I woke up at midnight with three or four muscles in each leg cramping. The degree of the cramps was severe, such that I had great difficulty just standing up.   Every move I made to stretch one muscle caused one or two others to get worse.   The doctors’ words suddenly popped into my head, “Stress uses up your calcium and magnesium.”

These cramps sure felt like stress to me.   I keep my vitamins and minerals in the kitchen.   So I decided to try some.   It took me a good 5 minutes to make it downstairs to the kitchen.   I quickly drank  an isotonic solution I mixed of calcium and magnesium.   (Isotonics get absorbed very fast).    Within ten minutes my cramps began to disappear, and I slept the rest of the night without any more cramping.

Usually, once I start experiencing muscle cramps in the night they continue to occur every couple hours the rest of the night.   Sure glad I was listening that day,   had the minerals on hand and remembered their words

Career Job vs Multiple Streams of Income

Today my wife and I have multiple businesses:  Counseling, Mediation, Law, and network marketing (Market America). We didn’t always believe in multiple streams of income. Originally I was a social worker, and my wife was a psychotherapist.  We were very comfortable in our careers, and actually insulted when someone asked if we were open to consider other opportunities. I later became a lawyer, and once again only focused on my career as a lawyer.

Our experiences taught us that we had too many of our eggs in one basket. We discovered that ALL JOBS are temporary, whether you know it or not.  Lately I have been sad to see so many people discovering this fact.  When the rug is yanked it is a crisis. Being proactive means learning to keep your options open, even when you think “all is well”.  So... which are you?

1.    “I’m busy. I’ve got a job and don’t have time to look at anything else?”

OR

2.   “I’m busy, I don’t know where I would find the time, but yes I’d like to learn about another opportunity?”

God's Green Earth, by Mr. William Taylor

Scarcity vs Unlimited Wealth.  If you believe God gave us a world with limited
resources then you will believe in scarcity, which will lead you to the conclusion
that God cannot want us to be wealthy because that would use up the resources.  If,
on the other hand, you believe in a loving God who wants us to be happy and
successful, then it doesn’t fit that God would set up a world where the only way we
could achieve happiness and success is to take from others.  There are many
references in the bible that God has given us a “Land of Plenty”.  That he rewards
those who work hard and have Faith.  This thinking leads you to believe there is
actually unlimited wealth available to us, and God has given us the means to create
unlimited ways to expand our riches.

Nomads vs Farmers.  Abraham was the first man we know of to recognize property
rights.  He bought land, and a cave to bury Sarah, his wife.   Nomads hunted and
gathered what the land had to offer.  When it was spent, they moved on.  This
changed with farming.  The land was found to be bountiful and with specialization,
and hard work, the land produced more.  God’s covenant is that if you have Faith and
work what is yours, you will be rewarded which you in turn then share  with others.
Specialization allows continued growth of wealth as people become better at what
they do and are rewarded with technological breakthroughs  (e.g. we now have more
oil via “fracking” than the rest of the world).  When people are allowed to improve
their lot and keep the rewards, total prosperity has no limit.

This process means the more economic interactions we have, the greater the bounty
“Givers Gain”.  This is the opposite thinking of those who see the world as a big
pie with the only way you can get more is for you to take away from others.   The
exhaustion of resources has been predicted by this thinking for 100's of years.
Innovations come with the hard work of entrepreneurs.  The naysayers then have to
go back and recalculate new “dooms day” predictions.  In a sense they have faith
that nothing will develop or be created which changes everything.   Example:  The
oil crisis / gas shortage in the US was ended in the 70's by introduction of fuel
injection (25% increase in gas mileage).  The technology was resisted by America’s
Big 3 car manufacturers via tons of money invested in mfg of carburetors.   A few
imports with fuel injection changed the mind set of the public, and foreign cars
gained a permanent place in our car industry.

Market America is a business plan that offers the opportunity for an entrepreneur to
actualize the above principles.  Market America’s plan allows you to share your
achievements with others by placing BV’s (commissions) below others who can then
convert them (BV’s) into cash.   The amount of people you can help is unlimited.
For example, if you buy $130 of wholesale products, you get 100 BV’s which you can
place under a person you sponsored.  The 100 pts are worth $15.  That means you just
shared $15 of your benefits.   The pts go up the ladder and every person above the
person you just helped, also gets the opportunity to convert the 100 pts into $15.
It could be a thousand people.

Then you get the 100 pts and you convert them to $15
to your own benefit.  If there is a Not Profit Organization (NPO)* in the system,
the NPO (Church for example) also gets the $15.  You also get the retail profits
from selling the products which should be about 30 or 40 dollars.   God says: “you
move towards me, I’ll move towards you.”   In MA all the people who receive the 100
pts must do the business first in order to be able to convert points.  They must
have found 2 partners first before they can convert pts into dollars.   Think about
it, everyone in MA can do this.  Every distributor can multiply his bounty for
others and even NPO’s.  Everyone can share the bounty of their business with an
unlimited number of partners and an unlimited number of NPO’s.  You can also have
numerous businesses in the system which get to participate in the bounty as well.
For example, if you have a second business in the line where you sent the 100 bv’s,
that business also gets the opportunity to convert the pts in- to $15.  That would
mean you would actually receive $30 from your $130 purchase of products.
This process creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and positive feelings of
support by those who have chosen to do the business  (developed 2 partners).  The
fact that you receive BV commissions from others doing the business, naturally
causes you to want them to be successful and grow their business.   The bottom line
is that by  sending commissions below to others (sharing in your bounty) and still
getting  them back, you actually can “have your cake and eat it too.”
It is “givers gain” at its best.

* Market America has opened the system to NPO’s.  They get the same rewards as
distributors but with no cost and no requirements.   They passively reap the rewards
of other people’s work.  If people decide to buy products directly from the NPO’s
website, the NPO also gets retail profits in addition to BV commissions.

Introduction to Karl Williams

Karl Williams is a retired businessman.   Karl and his wife, Carole, started Karl Williams, Inc. in 1978, selling printing equipment and supplies.  They were the oldest Ryobi printing equipment dealership in North America, having won multiple sales awards during their time in the business.

Karl and Carole sold the company January 1, 2011.  Carole retired, but Karl has picked up the pace on one of his side businesses he has been involved with for 48 years:  antique racing boats.   To be more specific, 1929-1951 Johnson and Evinrude outboard racing boats.   Karl is involved in all aspects, from the manufacture of parts to repairing and building the engines.

For 15 years Karl has also been involved in the health care supplement business.   Becoming familiar with a variety of companies, he noticed that most have one “flagship” product that carries the business.   Then he was introduced to Market America by the same person who introduced Bill Taylor to the company.   He realized the Isotonix line of products makes Market America light years ahead of any other company  in this field. Karl's main objective matching people who want to be helped with products that help.

Karl is proud of the new owners of Karl Williams, Inc. who have taken the company to a new level of success.  He likes to think he helped in that both of the new owners now use the Market America products which they have found  addressed the health issues they were experiencing. He is also one of the founders of Economic Opps.

Origins of Economic Opps

A group of us came together in the Spring of 2012 to discuss a new idea for “doing the business”.  We had all decided to try another way (Plan B) while continuing to work our 45 year plan (Plan A).  Our frustration was with how to find others who were looking for their Plan B?  We had no doubt that our Plan B (Market America) is the best low risk opportunity in network marketing.   We had found that like-minded people are not easy to find.   As entrepreneurs, we were ready to try something else, which became Economic Opps.    Others in Market America were reporting success with finding entrepreneurs on the internet through social media.  As a group we had many valuable and varied experiences through our Plan A careers.    Most of these lessons of experience were learned the hard way.

We opined on how it would have been nice if someone could have “clued us in” on the “real world” when we first started to work, or even while still in school.   So, a primary purpose, or theme, to our mission for Economic Opps  is to share our insights in hopes it will help others to better plan for their future.   A sneaky thought is that those who relate to our ideas or insights may be “like minded”.   Perhaps all this thinking may cause them to want to hear about a Plan B (Market America).   Oh, I’m sorry, did I just say that “out loud”?

Invitation to Learn More

On September 28th we are heading to Chicago for Go Now Chicago's Market America event......and we'd love for you to join us!!!!!

For those of you who went to our Economic Opps Blog:
www.economic-opps.blogspot.com,
and clicked the “BUSINESS PLAN” (Earn Money) on the tool bar, you saw a 22 minute YouTube video, that gave the overview of Market America and how entrepreneurs are doing the business with little overhead and little risk.  If this sparked your interest, it should have also sparked some questions.  Entrepreneurs not only form questions, they also gather all the facts before making a decision. Many people rush to say “no” as a means to avoid dealing with the unknown.   If you are not one of those people, and you are still curious and wanting more information, we have an opportunity coming up.

On Saturday, September 28th, a group of us are driving from Springfield, IL to Chicago, IL to hear one of the successful entrepreneurs in Market America tell her story of how she was able to create a residual income over $35,000.00 every four weeks.  If you can get to Springfield, Chicago or somewhere along the way, we would be happy to have you join our group, as our guest, and learn if Market America is right for you.  Send us an email at economicopps@gmail.com   or call me, Bill Taylor, at 217-741-7400. And for more information about the event go to http://www.gonowchicago.com.

Introductions - William Taylor

I live in Springfield, IL where my wife, Sue, and I enjoy running four different, but
related, businesses.  First, Sue is a psychotherapist who counsels individuals and
couples.   Second, I am a lawyer and I consult with, and periodically represent,
individuals on various legal matters.  Third, Sue and I are co-mediators, working
with couples primarily in the area of divorce.  I also mediate for the US Post
Office, and the IL Department of Children and Family Services.   Our fourth business is
Market America, where we consult with people on various health issues and helpful
nutraceuticals.   We also share the business opportunity of Market America with
those with the gumption to build a successful business.

All four of these enterprises share the common goal of “Helping Others.”   Through
these businesses we have met many people who continue to surprise us.  There have
been many inspirational stories of people facing adversity who take full
responsibility to resolve the issues they face.  They deeply appreciate any help
they receive.  We have also seen many who take little or no responsibility and look
to others to blame or rescue them.  They often do not appreciate help, especially
when they are left with responsibility.  One thing I have learned is that I cannot
change people.  The “mindset” people choose determines how information is processed.
There is an old Chinese saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will
appear.”   I find this to be true with people regardless of which hat I am wearing.

For many I hope I am planting “seeds” that will later bear fruit.  Bertrand
Russell once said, “Most men would rather die than think, and many do.”  Maybe it is
fear of the unknown.
